Preschool & Baby gym

There will be no baby gym Friday 27th August and no Preschool gym Saturday 28th August due to staff holidays.

A ten strong squad of boys aged between 8 and 12 went from Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club to compete against a large field of boy gymnasts from around the Country. There was one team there from Scotland too so “have gymnasts…..will travel”!!

Luke Strickett Morling and Glen Quayle were competing for their very first time away from the Island and they did themselves proud in a field of 27 gymnasts.  Luke’s best score was a 7th on floor which was amazing, closely followed by an 8th on vault. Watch this space for Luke in the future!!  Glen incorporated a round off back flick  into his floor routine which worked well giving him a joint 15th place. Glen’s best piece was vault where he gained a super 9th position. Well done boys……..a great first try.

Later on that same day saw Cedric Lucas in a class of his own in the born 2000 age group. His best score came on Parallel bars where he gained a 12th place from a field of 28.

Then came the 1998 and 1999 group which included Oliver Scott, Daniel Isherwood and Robert Jones. Oliver performed solidly and consistently throughout but came up trumps with his vault taking the GOLD medal no less………….Fantastic effort Oliver. Daniel took 11th on Pommel Horse and 12th on floor in a field of 24 and Robert displayed great poise and control in his floor routine making him  a very worthy 5th. His second best score was a 12th on Parallel Bars.

The older boys Tony Duchars (competing for his club HOGC) , Nicky Harvey and Callum Smithies had a long wait for their comp which was on the Saturday. Callum , still recovering from a recent broken wrist soldiered through all his routines bar the Pommel Horse achieving  his best score on Vault. Tony and Nick had to compete against  a huge group of boys in the individual class of 65!! Tony came out 8th overall including a brilliant score of 12.6 on Pommel Horse giving him the GOLD medal in that discipline. Meanwhile Nicky’s best score came on vault. Nicky chose to perform a piked tsukahara for the very first time in competition which rewarded him with a very creditable 13th position.  Well done boys………..

Ben Castellucci has been with EVGC for a long time now and the club will be very sorry to see him go………he and his family are off to pastures new in the Uk………..Ben has been a great asset to the Development Group and a good friend to all the boys who will miss him. He intends to keep up his gymnastics following his move so hopefully we will see him again whilst competing in the UK.  To say goodbye to Ben the Development boys had a fun session at Laserblast arranged by ClareDuchars (Ben’s coach) followed by refreshments provided by the Mums. Here are a few photos to show you that gymnasts know how to have fun inside and outside of the gym!!
